RBC Training Ground Qualifier to Yellowknife on Saturday May 24th at the Multiplex.  This free event is open to any athlete aged 14-25 years old. Over the first 9 years of the program, RBC Training Ground has tested over 16,000 athletes from across Canada in search of Olympic potential. To date, 21 RBC Training Ground alumni have reached their Team Canada dreams of becoming Olympians,  with 12 of these 21 athletes bringing home 14 Olympic medals from 3 Olympic Games!

RBC is excited to build on this success as it recruits new athletes in 2025 and would be thrilled if we can help spread the word.

Athletes can
sign up now on the website.

For too many young athletes, the Olympics seem out of reach, the path is undefined and they may feel their potential is going unnoticed. Together, we can make sure that no talent goes unseen and no Olympic potential is left unrealized.

Join us in shaping the next generation of Team Canada talent.

A new NWTRPA initiative that empowers youth through recreation!
The NWTRPA has secured funding from the Government of Canada (Canada Service Corps) to launch Activate NT, a microgrant program providing over 100 grants of $5,000 each to youth across the Northwest Territories. These grants will help young leaders design and deliver recreation programs in their home communities.

Learn more: CLICK HERE to visit their website for full program details.

The Role of Project Mentors
To ensure success, NWTRPA is seeking volunteer project mentors to support youth grant recipients. As a mentor, you would:

  • Provide guidance and encouragement throughout the project.

  • Share relevant technical or local knowledge and expertise.

  • Help recipients stay on track with timelines and budgets.

Your support will make a direct impact by empowering youth and strengthening community recreation initiatives.

Why You?
We believe local leaders like you (and colleagues in your network) are in the best position to identify and support capable youth who would excel in this program. Strong candidates will demonstrate potential for:

  • Initiative and leadership

  • Organizational and financial responsibility

  • Commitment to their community

While the NWTRPA will screen and interview applicants, we’re reaching out to potential project mentors first to help us find and support outstanding youth participants.

How to Get Involved
Interested? CLICK HERE to express interest—there’s no commitment required! They will follow up with more details.
As a mentor, we’d also ask you to help identify potential youth participants in your community. They don’t need a fully formed project idea yet—just an interest in getting involved.

Support for Mentors & Youth
Mentors won’t be supporting recipients alone! The NWTRPA will provide:

  • Ongoing mentorship and support to grant recipients through regular virtual or in-person check-ins.

  • three-day training workshop in Sǫ̀mba K’è / Yellowknife (Sept/Oct 2025), where recipients will gain the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to succeed. Mentors are welcome to attend!

Please consider joining us in this initiative! Let us know if you’re interested, and feel free to share this opportunity with friends and colleagues who may also want to get involved.
